Watterson uses everyday moments--battles over bathtime, awkward school photos, epic snowball fights--to explore bigger ideas about friendship, family, creativity, and the wonderful weirdness of growing up. Whether Calvin is zipping through time in a cardboard box-turned-time machine, creating mutant snowmen in the yard, or musing about life's meaning under the stars, the strip strikes a rare balance between laugh-out-loud funny and unexpectedly profound. Hobbes, with his dry wit and tiger-like instincts, is the perfect foil to Calvin's chaos, grounding their friendship in warmth and wonder.

A must-have for longtime fans and new readers of all ages, The Essential Calvin and Hobbes is not just a comic collection--it's a celebration of imagination, wit, and the endurance of a boy and his tiger navigating the world, trying to make sense of it, one outrageous adventure at a time.

Author: Bill Watterson
Publisher: Andrews McMeel Publishing
Published: 01/05/1988
Pages: 254
Binding Type: Paperback
Weight: 1.74lbs
Size: 10.89h x 8.51w x 0.69d
ISBN: 9780836218053
Audience: Ages 9-12

About the Author
Bill Watterson is the creator of Calvin and Hobbes, one of the most popular and well-regarded cartoon strips of the twentieth century. Calvin and Hobbes appeared in newspapers from November 1985 until Watterson's retirement in 1995.
//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0619/5648/9373/files/img_07e1235b-e8c8-49a2-81c5-3b244f8c0d2a.jpg?v=1759864408
the-calvin-and-hobbes-portable-compendium-set-1-volume-1-9781524884970
The Calvin and Hobbes Portable Compendium Set 1: Volume 1
The first set of books collecting Bill Watterson's timeless Calvin and Hobbes comics in a compact, portable format designed to introduce the timeless adventures of a boy and his stuffed tiger to a new generation of readers. The success of its new style inspired Lee and his many collaborators to develop a number of Super Heroes, including, with Jack Kirby, the Incredible Hulk and the X-Men; with Steve Ditko, the Amazing Spider-Man and Doctor Strange; and with Bill Everett, Daredevil. Lee oversaw the adventures of these creations for more than a decade before handing over the editorial reins at Marvel to others and focusing on developing Marvel's properties in other media. For the remainder of his long life, he continued to serve as a creative figurehead at Marvel and as an ambassador for the comics medium as a whole. In his final years, Lee's signature cameo appearances in Marvel's films established him as one of the world's most famous faces.

Born Jacob Kurtzberg in 1917 to Jewish-Austrian parents on New York's Lower East Side, Jack Kirby came of age at the birth of the American comic book industry. Horrified by the rise of Nazism, Kirby co-created the patriotic hero Captain America with Joe Simon in 1940. Cap's exploits on the comic book page entertained millions of American readers at home and inspired US troops fighting the enemy abroad. Kirby's partnership with Simon continued throughout the 1940s and early '50s; together, they produced comics in every popular genre, from Western to romance. In 1958, Kirby began his equally fruitful collaboration with writer- editor Stan Lee, and in 1961 the two men co-created the foundational text of the modern Marvel Universe: The Fantastic Four. Over the next decade, Kirby and Lee would introduce a mind- boggling array of new characters-- including the Avengers, the Hulk, Thor, Iron Man, the Silver Surfer, and the X-Men. Kirby's groundbreaking work with Lee formed the foundation of the Marvel Universe. In the early 1970s, Kirby moved to DC Comics, where he created his interconnected Fourth World series, as well as freestanding titles such as The Demon.

Kirby died in 1994. Today, he is generally regarded as one of the most important and influential creators in the history of American comics.
