When John F. Baker Jr. was in the seventh grade, he saw a photograph of four former slaves in his social studies textbook--two of them were his grandmother's grandparents. The Washington family owned the plantation until 1983; their family papers, housed at the Tennessee State Library and Archives, include birth registers from 1795 to 1860, letters, diaries, and more. Over the last twenty-three years, it is estimated that more than 3.5 million people have gone through this Christ-centered recovery program. There are currently 30,000+ churches that have weekly meetings. John and his wife Cheryl have been married over four decades and have served together in Celebrate Recovery since 1991.
