Die erste der hier folgenden humoristischen Kleinigkeiten, die Novellette Wider den Strom, basirt auf einer allerdings nicht streng beglaubigten Mittheilung Pigault-Lebruns, der uns irgendwo die betreffenden Briefe Napoleons und Jrme's reproducirt, und ber die Straf-Mission des Generals Rapp kurz, aber energisch Bericht erstattet. Der zweite Scherz, Die Feuerspritze von Gressinet, beruht auf freier Erfindung. Wenn verschiedne Kritiker, die den harmlosen Schwank s. Z. mit Referaten beehrt haben, in dem Streite zwischen Clatou und Gressinet eine Satire auf das politische Parteiwesen im Allgemeinen erkennen wollten, so lass' ich's gelten; da einer dieser Herren jedoch so weit ging, hinter jedem der hier geschilderten Spiebrger eine bekannte Tagespersnlichkeit zu vermuthen, das ist zu viel des interpretirenden Scharfsinns. Die Separatausgabe der Feuerspritze von Gressinet war mit dem Motto von Gustav Droz geschmckt: petite fantaisie sans prtention, qui veut tre lue, comme elle a t crite; gaiement, au coin du feu, et les pieds sur les chenets.
