Nous avons cherch donner dans deux prcdents ouvrages, une dfinition, aussi claire que possible, du Centon et de la Parodie. Il est peut-tre plus difficile d'tablir la thorie du Pastiche et ses rapports avec les genres similaires. Par leurs troites affinits, ils semblent souvent se confondre entr'eux. On demanderait en vain la dfinition du Pastiche aux auteurs du 17me et du 18me sicles. Remarquons que l'Acadmie Franaise, jusqu'en 1835, ne donnait pas le droit de cit, ce vocable d'origine italienne. Il a trouv[Pg 2] place dans la sixime dition, o on lit: "Pastiche en littrature se dit d'un ouvrage o l'on imite les ides et le style de quelqu'crivain clbre; exemple: Certaines rflexions de ce moraliste sont un pastiche o il a imit le raisonnement et le style de Pascal." Cette dfinition est videmment incomplte. MM. Barr, Langlois et Regnier, auteurs de Lexiques Complmentaires du Dictionnaire de l'Acadmie, se proccupent si peu de distinguer entre les divers genres, qu'au mot Pastiche, ils renvoient le lecteur ce qui est dit au mot Centon! M. Patin, au tome 1er de ses "Etudes sur la posie latine," fait mieux comprendre la diffrence entre[Pg 3] les deux significations, lorsqu'il dit: "La littrature grecque, sa dcadence, finit par s'imiter elle-mme, se copier, et remonter, par le pastiche, vers son pass." ......Buy Now (To Read More)
