The Royal Cruising Club Pilotage Foundation was founded in 1976 to advance "the education of the public in the science and practice of navigation."

Kitty Van Hagen has cruised the Pacific extensively, from the Panama Canal to the Pacific Northwest, with three years making the run between New Zealand and the Cook Islands, Fiji, Tonga, and Australia.
