Brewer discovers that Alaska is like nowhere else and finds himself unexpectedly in love with bush Alaska - the land, its people and their stories.

Although he's a city boy and a lawyer, he learns to fly a ski plane so that he can follow the dog sled teams along the Iditarod Trail to Nome, experiencing The Last Great Race from the icy skies and treacherous canyons of the Alaska Range. As he makes his way across Alaska, he navigates the stigma of being a newcomer in The Last Frontier in heartwarming and often hilarious ways.

As Camp Brewer is established, Brewer hosts a medley of guests curious about bush Alaska. Each of them arrives with a mission, and all are contemplating survival, just like the bears, eagles, wolves, and foxes they encounter.

These are real people who come for a very different kind of vacation experience, but find themselves facing personal truths, sharing life's lessons, and finding humility in the wild beauty of Alaska.

With narration, photographs and storied poetry, Back Story Alaska is a unique expression of a journey shared by all of us - it is a journey of adventure, friendship, reflection, and hope.

About the Author
Brewer, Lance: - Lance Brewer was born and raised in Southern California. Lance played college baseball at UCLA and University of Utah. He was admitted to practice law in California in 1986. Thereafter, Lance became a pilot, gaining ratings as an Airline Transport, Multi-Engine, Seaplane and Helicopter pilot, which served him well in his exploration of Alaska. In 1994 and 2005, Lance was the chief campaign strategist for Marilyn Brewer for Assembly and Congress, respectively. In 2005, Brewer was appointed to serve on the Board of Directors of Advanced Photonix (API), a publicly traded company.Dreeszen, Robert: - Bob Dreeszen, or Ugashik Bob, joined the Navy in June of 1961. Author Lance Brewer describes Ugashik Bob thusly: There is only one attribute about Ugashik Bob that exceeds his tenacity and toughness, his intelligence. After being tested extensively by the Navy, he was among a select few to serve as an Aviation Electricians Mate. After leaving the Navy, Ugashik Bob began his career with IBM, in Rochester, Minnesota, as a Senior Large Systems Engineer. In February of 1983, Bob was transferred to Anchorage. In September of 1985, Bob went on a fishing trip to Southwest Alaska, to the Ugashik Narrows. It was love at first bite. Ugashik Bob absolutely had to find a plot of land upon which to build he and his wife, Carol, a home. In May of 1986, Ugashik Bob and Carol started building their home just below the lower Ugashik Lake, in Ugashik, Alaska, where the majority of the photographs in the Back Story Alaska were taken.
