About the Author
Stachowiak, Julie: - Julie Stachowiak is the Guide to multiple sclerosis for About.com (the Internet property owned by the New York Times). She writes articles for the website (ms.about.com) the goal of which is to build a comprehensive Internet source of MS information. In that role she has been called by Josie Byzek of New Mobility Magazine the best MS writer on the web.

Julie has her doctorate in International Disease Control and Prevention from Johns Hopkins University Bloomberg School of Public Health, two Masters from Columbia University, one from the Columbia University School of Public Health in International Population and Family Health Specialization the other from Columbia University School of International and Public Affairs in Human Rights and International Law/Soviet Studies Specializations.

In 1993 she co-founded one of the first non-governmental AIDS/HIV organizations in Russia. AIDS infoshare has grown to be the most influential non-governmental organization dealing with the HIV epidemic in Russia (http: //www.infoshare.ru/work/) and continues to fight to get information on the disease into the right hands. It was this work that informed her embrace of her own disease and her political stance on living with a chronic condition.

She is the author of Demos Health's The Multiple Sclerosis Manifesto: Action to Take, Principles to Live By.
