One eye may not point in the same direction as the other due to a condition known as strabismus.
Although it can also be caused by a problem with the eye muscles, it is mainly caused by an incorrect alignment of the eyes.
Despite the fact that strabismus can take many different forms, they all impair vision to some extent.
Most strabismus patients don't have any vision problems.
Although most strabismus sufferers have good vision for daily tasks, strabismus sufferers occasionally experience minor visual problems.
Other times, people with strabismus may have serious vision problems.

Stabistism can be a serious problem if left untreated.
If neglected, strabismus can cause vision impairment that is irreversible.
There are several types of strabismus.
The most common type of strabismus, called simple strabismus, results from the eyes' incorrect alignment.
This type of strabismus can cause the eyes to occasionally look in different directions.

Even though sophisticated strabismus can cause the eyes to move in opposite directions, one eye's vision is nearly always worse than the other.
The ability of the eyes to look in different directions as well as some degree of vision impairment in one or both eyes is characteristics of mixed strabismus.

Strabismus may originate from the muscles that control the eyes.
The medical word for this is spastic strabismus.
A problem with the muscles that control the eye leads to spastic strabismus, a rare form of the condition.
