What to Expect from Flight Training When You Want to Become a Commercial Pilot is the second book in The Pilot Career Series by Vesa Turpeinen. It is a guidebook designed to prepare readers for their commercial pilot training. The book offers unfiltered and professional advice on how to successfully complete flight training required in a career path to becoming a commercial airline pilot or a flight instructor.

This self-help book, is filled with valuable and need-to-know information, it provides tips on how to effectively prepare for the training, what to expect, and how to get the mindset that leads to success in the training.

The book answers questions related to the contents of the training with its core objectives, what is required to get a Pilot License, the exams needed to complete and how to prepare for them, the certificates and ratings that professional pilots are supposed to have, and a lot more.

From gaining your student pilot certificate to becoming a flight instructor, you will learn the application requirements and what to expect throughout the training process. As well as learning about each stage of the training process, the author also shares his personal aviation experiences.

Each challenge you may face throughout the process is covered, with solutions and different options available to you. Whether you are planning a career as a cargo pilot, flight instructor, or simply want to fly for fun, this book will cover everything you need to know.

The purpose of this book is not to teach you any specific skills or knowledge areas. You won't learn how aerodynamics work or how to control an aircraft in flight - that's something you will learn once you start your flight training. Instead, this book will give you an overall picture of what to expect from flight training before you start taking flight lessons or start your ground school studies.

The information in this book mostly applies to flight training in the United States, following regulations set by the FAA. However, you can still benefit from reading this book even if you're planning to do your training in another country.

Flight training in most countries follow a similar pattern; you get the exact same licenses in the same order. Most of the aeronautical knowledge areas and flight maneuvers will be the same as well. And there will be practical examinations at the end of each training course, regardless of your aviation authority.

This book explains the overall training process for the following FAA pilot certificates and ratings:

Pilot Certificates:

  • Student Pilot Certificate
  • Private PIlot Certificate (PPL)
  • Commecial Pilot Certificate (CPL)
  • Airline Transport Pilot Certificate (ATPL)

Pilot Ratings:

  • Instrument Rating (IR)
  • Multi-Engine Rating

Instructor Certificates:

  • Certified Flight Instructor (CFI)
  • Certified Flight instructor Instrument (CFII)
  • Certified Flight Instructor Multi-Engine (MEI)

Ground Instructor Certificates:

  • Basic Ground Instructor (BGI)
  • Advanced Ground Instructor (AGI)
  • Instrument Ground Instructor (IGI)

What to Expect from Flight Training clearly explains the various certificates a person needs to start and advance his pilot training to becoming a pilot. This book is a valuable reference guide for anyone wanting to become a pilot. Reading this book is the next best thing to having a personal mentor by your side and will give you a good foundation of knowledge.
