Through the ramblings of its unnamed narrator--an embittered, isolated man living in St. Petersburg--we are taken deep into the conflicted mind of a man who defies logic, mocks rationality, and challenges the very foundations of society.
This provocative and philosophical work explores themes of free will, alienation, self-destruction, and the human condition with startling honesty. Dark, philosophical, and ahead of its time, it remains one of Dostoevsky's most thought-provoking and enduring works.

A cry from the depths of a fractured mind.

Explore the foundational text of existentialist and psychological literature

Delve into the conflicted mind of an anti-hero who resists logic and modernity

Reflect on profound questions of free will, alienation, and self-awareness

Discover Dostoevsky's influence on thinkers like Nietzsche, Camus, and Freud

Experience a bold and unapologetic examination of human irrationality

Themes Explored:

The paradox of human free will

Isolation and the psyche of the underground man

Rejection of utilitarianism and rational egoism

Shame, pride, and self-inflicted suffering

Conflict between reason and emotion

Author: Fyodor Dostoyevsky
Publisher: Fingerprint
Published: 09/30/2024
Pages: 148
Binding Type: Paperback
Weight: 0.20lbs
Size: 7.64h x 4.96w x 0.55d
ISBN: 9789362140968

About the Author
The most important Russian author of his time, Fyodor Mikhaylovich Dostoyevsky (also spelled Dostoevsky) was born on November 11, 1821, in Moscow. From a young age, he was introduced to literature by way of fairy tales and folk tales narrated to him. After completing his studies, Dostoevsky became a sub-lieutenant. In 1843, he began to work as a lieutenant engineer. His first piece of writing, a translation of Balzac's Eugénie Grandet, was published in the same year. Poor Folk, Dostoevsky's first novel was published in 1846.Between 1846 and 1849, Dostoevsky wrote works that were face-paced narratives. His short stories were featured regularly in Annals of the Fatherland, such as 'The Landlady', 'A Weak Heart', and 'Wild Nights'. Dostoevsky also published a monthly magazine Vremya under the editorship of his brother. Borne out of Dostoevsky's traumatic experiences and the misery of his general life and constant poverty, sprung out his masterpiece--Crime and Punishment. Dostoevsky wrote many other notable works such as Notes from the Underground (1864), Idiot (1868-69), The Possessed (1873), The Adult (1875), and The Brothers Karamazov (1881), which was his last work. On February 9, 1881, Dostoevsky breathed his last after he suffered multiple haemorrhages.
//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0619/5648/9373/files/img_32bcf81b-f05a-4eef-a8c4-a721ea675fd0.jpg?v=1789455468
