We pass on the\r\nstreet corner two men talking, and from a chance sentence\r\nor two we form a strong impression of the character\r\nof one or both. Sometimes we travel through a scene so\r\ndesolate and depressing or so lovely and uplifting that\r\nthe effect is never forgotten. Such glimpses of life and\r\nscene are as vivid as the vignettes revealed by the searchlight,\r\nwhen its arm slowly explores a mountain-side or\r\nthe shore of a lake and brings objects for a brief moment\r\ninto high light.
