As We Bloom: Wisdom from Extraordinary Everyday Women and Gender Nonconforming People is the story of the author's solo, cross-country road trip in search of people living in inspirational and courageous ways in a time when her own life had fallen out from under her.
In her minivan (not the cool Sprinter kind, the family minivan kind), Mia drove from the beaches of Southern California and the icy ocean waters of the Pacific Northwest to the magnificent mountains of Colorado and the blustery, bustling streets of New York City. Along the way, she spoke with people of all walks of life: a car mechanic running an LGBTQIA+ auto repair shop in Seattle, a smokejumper in Missoula, a craft beer brewer in Denver, and a group of women who ride motorbikes and leave a trail of pink smoke throughout New Orleans. She said goodbye to an old life and hello to newness, moved tenderly through a broken heart, fell in love, and rediscovered her own power.
After nearly ten thousand miles, twenty interviews, and four months, Mia chronicled some of the women and gender nonconforming folks living out magnificent stories and charting brave paths we won't see on billboards, in movies, or in magazines-existing instead in our own communities and backyards.
As We Bloom is a journey of learning to trust ourselves when we don't have any answers and prioritize living in a way that brings us joy-without a trendy shortcut, pro tip, or life hack. It's a rich collection of diverse lived experiences and raw vulnerability against a backdrop of social justice that urges us to indulge in possibility and reconnect with ourselves.

Bolton, Mia: - Mia Bolton is a writer, water photographer, and Martha Beck Certified Wayfinder Life Coach. Mia contributes to national and international publications highlighting diverse identities in the outdoors, including a cover story for HiHeyHello Magazine and multipage features in Foam Symmetry, Pacific Longboarder Magazine, USA Swimming Magazine, Butter Magazine, and others. As We Bloom is now a book that celebrates everyday, extraordinary women and gender nonconforming people from all walks of life who have found joy and designed their lives in nontraditional ways.In her role as Vice President of Communications at Mixte Communications, Mia partners with local, statewide, and national social justice organizations to leverage her writing and communications expertise for long-term change. She's especially proud of the campaign she led with the League of Women Voters of California to mobilize BIPOC youth to vote in the 2020 general election, which earned eight national awards and contributed to the critical work grassroots organizations around the country are doing to get out the vote.Outside of her many perpetual projects, Mia can be found learning to rest; surfing, diving, and taking photos in the ocean; or spending time with her partner, Devin, in the San Francisco Bay Area, trying to teach their three cats to walk on a leash.
Returns Policy
You may return most new, unopened items within 30 days of delivery for a full refund. We'll also pay the return shipping costs if the return is a result of our error (you received an incorrect or defective item, etc.).
You should expect to receive your refund within four weeks of giving your package to the return shipper, however, in many cases you will receive a refund more quickly. This time period includes the transit time for us to receive your return from the shipper (5 to 10 business days), the time it takes us to process your return once we receive it (3 to 5 business days), and the time it takes your bank to process our refund request (5 to 10 business days).
If you need to return an item, simply login to your account, view the order using the "Complete Orders" link under the My Account menu and click the Return Item(s) button. We'll notify you via e-mail of your refund once we've received and processed the returned item.
Shipping
We can ship to virtually any address in the world. Note that there are restrictions on some products, and some products cannot be shipped to international destinations.
