Bailey is the founding director of the Man & Sea Institute, was affiliate professor for more than thirty years at the University of Washington and was formerly a senior scientist at the Alaska Fisheries Science Center. Most recently, he is the author of Fishing Lessons: Artisanal Fisheries and the Future of Our Oceans, also published by the University of Chicago Press.
