Through the life stories of the author's grandfathers, father, uncles, and cousins, Deadfall documents the dramatic changes in the logging industry since the early 1900s. The book focuses on the influence of international timber giant Weyerhaeuser Company in the Pacific Northwest, yet it themes resonate from Alaska to the American Southwest-wherever timber is king. While spurning nostalgia for logging's glory days, Deadfall attempts to view a future for today's timber workers.

About the Author
Lemonds, James: - James LeMonds has lived most of his life in Castle Rock, Washington, a logging town in the shadow of Mount St. Helens. The son of a log truck driver, LeMonds first tasted the danger and grueling conditions of work in the woods during two summers spent as a choker setter--which quickly cured him of any desire to leave college for the life of a logger.
