Oft habe ich versucht, mir meine frheste Kindheit ins Gedchtnis zurckzurufen, doch reicht meine Erinnerung nur bis zu meinem fnften Lebensjahr und ist auch da schon teilweise ausgelscht. Mit voller Klarheit aber steht noch ein Sonntagvormittag im Winter desselben Jahres vor mir, als ich, an Scharlach erkrankt, auf dem Kanapee in der Wohnstube lag; es war dies der einzige Raum, der geheizt wurde. Der Grovater war in seinem geblumten Samtgilet, dem braunen Rock mit den silbernen Knpfen und dem blauen, faltigen Tuchmantel in die Kirche vorausgegangen, whrend die Gromutter in dem schnen Kleide, das bald blulich, bald rtlich schillerte, noch vor mir stand und mich ansah, wobei sie immer wieder das schwarze seidene Kopftuch zurechtrckte. Neben der Tr aber stand in Hemdsrmeln der alte Hausl und wollte eben den Sonntagsrock vom Nagel nehmen, als sich die Gromutter umdrehte und zu ihm sagte: Geh, Hausl, bleib du heunt dahoam und gib aufs Kind Obacht und tus Haus hten; i mcht aa amal wieda in d Kirch geh. Darauf lie der Hausl seinen Rock hngen und zog wieder seinen blauen, gestrickten Janker an, und die Gromutter ging zu dem Wandschrnklein, das in die Mauer eingelassen war, nahm daraus das Weihbrunnkrgl und wollte gehen.
