I John

This first section of scripture helps readers realize this is not a second or even a third hand recollection. This is first hand knowledge. A knowledge that causes us to look deep within ourselves to exam our love and our fellowship with God, with others, with our own self.

In our world of individual self-importance, arrogance, and conceit the threat of misguided thinking captivates individuals holding them hostage and places us/them into boxes/pods, if you will, of our own making. It is good to be proud and confident and even love yourself - caution is given to be those things in Christ power and love - NOT YOUR OWN.
