Patty graduated with highest distinction from Grace University, earning a Master of Arts in Biblical Studies and Psychology as well as a Bachelor of Science in Biblical Studies. She is a licensed mental health professional and a licensed professional counselor. She was invited to present seminars on Christian Pastoral Counseling for hundreds of indigenous pastors and church leaders in both Mexico and India. Her training material entitled Paraclete, has been translated into seven languages.

After the unexpected death of their 33-year-old son, both she and her husband, Dennis, invested the next year in mental health counseling from a licensed grief counselor. This time she was the client - not the counselor. As an avid writer, part of her therapy included journal entries as she expressed emotions of her walk through her grief. Her book is an accumulation of those journal entries.

Other books by Patty include:

- The Bathsheba Legacy

- In Spite of it All

- Living in the Yellow: Basic Pistol & Self-Awareness for Women

- Concealed Handgun Permit Training Course

She and her husband have been married 48 years and live in Lincoln, Nebraska. They lead a life group through their church, and have led a national sales organization for Heartland International, Inc. for over 45 years. They have six children and nine grandchildren.
