The spiritual wisdom of Saint Benedict has endured for centuries and quite literally shaped Western culture from its inception. Tenets of the order, like its motto and Saint Benedict's Rule, are just as influential for lay people as they are for the Benedictine monks and nuns. About the Author
St Gregory the Great (540-604) was pope between 590 and 604 AD. St. Gregory lived a humble life even as pope, dining with the poor at almost every meal, constantly giving alms and land away, and sending his priests into the streets to minister to the poor. During his pontificate, he made several changes to the Mass, some of which still exist today. However, he is most famous for Gregorian Chant. As a prolific writer, he is best known for his biography, The Life of St. Benedict.
