Aided by a wide range of case material, they illustrate the meaning of exploration in a global context from antiquity to the present day. Lauren Beck is the Canada Research Chair in Intercultural Encounter and Professor of Hispanic Studies at Mount Allison University, New Brunswick, Canada. Her books include Firsting in the Early Modern Transatlantic World (2019) and Visualizing the Text: From Manuscript Culture to Caricature (2017).
