Originally known as the author and illustrator of the Bunyip Tree series of children's books, in 2020 Russell decided to release some of his more fanciful illustrations as a series of coloring books.

"Adding color to my illustrations is so much fun. I wanted to share the joy of this almost meditative experience and launched the R.J.Hampson series of coloring books.
