veterinary medicine is a medical specialty that focuses on the prevention, control, diagnosis, and treatment of diseases that affect the health of domestic and wild animals as well as the prevention of the transmission of animal diseases to humans. Veterinary medicine is also known as veterinary science. By keeping an eye on and taking care of the health of animals that produce food, veterinarians ensure that people have a safe supply of food
Animal doctors have been around since the beginning of recorded history, and veterinary medicine was already a speciality in Babylonia and Egypt in 2000 BCE. The ancient Greeks had a group of doctors they called "horse-doctors." In modern times, the field is now known by the Latin term "veterinarius," which means "pertaining to beast of burden." Veterinarians today work in a variety of settings, including private and corporate clinical practice, academic programs, private industry, public health, the military, and the government. Other veterinary medicine professionals, such as veterinary technicians and veterinary nurses, frequently assist them in their work.
