About the Author
Nicanor Parra Sandoval nació en 1914 en San Fabián de Alico (Ñuble, Chile). Vivió en Santiago y en Chillán. En 1940 viajó a Estados Unidos, donde realizó estudios de Física y Mecánica Avanzada, y en 1945 regresó a Chile. En 1948 fue nombrado director interino de la Escuela de Ingeniería, y publicó sus primeros antipoemas en una antología. En 1952 realizó con Enrique Lihn y Alejandro Jodorowsky el diario mural El quebrantahuesos. En 1954 publicó su obra más influyente, Poemas y antipoemas. Recibió el premio Nacional de Literatura en 1969. El mismo año publicó sus primeros "artefactos". En 1972 fue postulado por primera vez al Premio Nobel de Literatura. Entre 1977 y 1981 publicó sus "sermones del Cristo de Elqui", nuevo cambio importante en la dirección de su poesía. En 1991 recibió en México el Premio Juan Rulfo y en 2001 el Premio Reina Sofía de Poesía Iberoamericana. En 2000 recibió el Honorary Fellow de la Universidad de Oxford.
