Bonnie Tyler, born Gaynor Hopkins on 8th June 1951, Skewen, Neath, Wales, UK, is a singer, known for her distinctive husky voice. Tyler became famous with the release of her album The World Starts Tonight during 1977 and its singles "Lost in France" and "More Than a Lover". Her single "It's a Heartache" reached # 4 on the UK Singles Chart then # 3 on the US Billboard Hot 100 the following year. Bonnie ventured into rock music in the 1980s, with songwriter and producer Jim Steinman of Meat Loaf fame, who wrote Tyler's biggest hit "Total Eclipse of the Heart", the lead single from her UK chart topping L.P., Faster Than the Speed of Night in 1983. Steinman also wrote Tyler's other major hit of the 1980s, "Holding Out for a Hero". Bonnie had success in mainland Europe during the 1990s with Dieter Bohlen, who wrote and produced her hit "Bitterblue". Tyler re-recorded "Total Eclipse of the Heart" with singer Kareen Antonn during 2003, their bilingual duet topping the French charts. Tyler's latest album Rocks and Honey was issued during 2013, featuring the single "Believe in Me," which she performed representing the UK at the Eurovision Song Contest that year. Both "It's a Heartache" and "Total Eclipse of the Heart" are among the best-selling singles of all time, each with sales in excess of 6 million. Bonnie has received 3 Grammy Award nominations and 3 Brit Award nominations, among other accolades.
