Le Grand Meaulnes is the only novel by French author Alain-Fournier, who died a year after the book was published, at age 27. The novel, partly biographical, details the story narrated by fifteen-year-old Fran ois Seurel of his friendship with seventeen-year-old Augustin Meaulnes as Meaulnes tries to find back a girl he met at a costume party on a mysterious country estate after getting lost on a trip.
