Allan Osborne was diagnosed with multiple myeloma, an incurable blood cancer, in 2008. Naturally, he and his wife Deb were devastated. Believing that knowledge is power, they immediately searched for information about this disease and its treatments. The more they learned, the less anxious they felt. Their knowledge gave them the confidence that, although their journey might be difficult, they could successfully navigate through it. It also gave them a sense of control. Most importantly, it gave them hope. In this book of essays, they share their journey to provide knowledge and inspiration to other patients, caregivers, and their families. It is divided into five parts. The first part is an overview of multiple myeloma and its treatment options. The next two parts contain essays chronicling their journey from the perspective of patient and caregiver. The fourth section provides information about the latest developments in multiple myeloma treatment. In the final section, the authors pay tribute to people who have inspired them and have given them strength, courage, and hope. The book also contains several appendices that list resources where patients and caregivers can find accurate, reliable, up-to-date information about multiple myeloma and treatment options.

About the Author
Allan Osborne is a retired elementary school principal and Deb Osborne is a retired elementary school teacher. They now spend their time travelling and volunteering. They are on the Patient and Family Advisory Council, Blum Center Advisory Committee, One-to-One Advisory Committee, and Legislative Action Committee at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in Boston, MA. They write monthly blogs and do fundraising for the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation and volunteer for the Pan Mass Challenge.
