Al reunirlos en un volumen me propongo dar una idea de lo que es Salta; y de lo que puede ocurrrsele en Salta a un hombre que observa, aislado, y sin ambiente literario alguno. Representa, pues, un esfuerzo intelectual, no s si estimable o necio. Hace diez aos, era Salta una ciudad colonial. La visitaba yo entonces por primera vez; y no necesito exagerar, si afirmo que ninguna ciudad de nuestra tierra me haba producido una igual impresin de carcter y de poesa. En Crdoba, en Santa Fe, encontramos algunas viejas casas caractersticas. En Salta lo eran todas por aquella poca. Con sus techos de tejas, sus ventanas y sus puertas de formas coloniales, y sus altos balconetes de madera y de hierro, que parecan colgados de los aleros, las casas de Salta evocaban encantadoramente la vida argentina de hace un siglo. Pero no eran slo las casas lo que entonces recordaba el tiempo que fu. Eran tambin las calles, las iglesias, las gentes, las costumbres. No olvidar nunca las sensaciones que me causaron ciertas cosas, tan exticas para m: el llanto trgico de la quena que un indio platero taa maravillosamente; el reidero, con su pblico heterogneo y sus escenas pintorescas; y un baile de arrabal, donde silenciosos indios, calzados de ojotas y emponchados, miraban, con asombro estpido y tenaz, cmo bailaban la chacarera y la zamba, al son de un arpa vieja y al ritmo de los versos quchuas que cantaba el msico ciego, las mujerzuelas y los hombres de diversas clases sociales que atestaban el rancho.[10] ......Buy Now (To Read More)
