-ABOUT THE BOOK: This well-researched historical fiction trilogy is an inspiring story of an unlikely heroine from a small rural community in Arkansas. The American Red Cross was reparing for war in 1916 and 1917 when America and England were trying to make it go away, and Germany was forging ahead. In the midst of this uncertainty, a young and determined Arkansas girl, smitten with the desire to be a certified nurse-and bolstered by a praying grandpa, unusual (and unconventional) bravery, and almost certainly an overworked angelic guardian-continues a journey that shapes the future for her, the folk of Wishbone Hollow, and many souls across the Atlantic.

I used to come over to Wishbone while Irvin Hopkins was a'preachin' at the church, but we both got too old. It was a big change for him, but he was holdin' up fairly well till that granddaughter from up the hill got big enough to start tryin' to find her own way. That thirteenth kid'a the Moffat's made a lotta conversation in town when she rescued the two kidnapped persons and wounded the kidnapper. After that, she was called on to sit with a coupla'a measles patients, and she did herself proud. Things was gonna get a might harder for Irvin without that girl around. Even so, Irvin and me was hopin' to see what she done next. We knowed it'd be good. Turns out, we wern't thikin' nearly big enough.
