Los indómitos guerreros yuma, entre ellos la joven Luna Solitaria, son cada vez más temibles en sus incursiones. Si antes habían sido los comanches sus objetivos de sangre, ahora eran los blancos y en especial los frailes de las misiones hispanas y quienes vivían en ellas, mestizos, criollos y mexicanos. Deberán ahora enfrentarse a las tropas del capitán de dragones Martín de Arellano, conocido en todo el virreinato de Nueva España, desde las selvas de Guatemala hasta Arkansas, como el Capitán Grande, como lo llamaban los comanches tónkawas, los siri, wichitas y yumas.
