I don't write noir. I write honest. The world is a dark place. My good characters are deeply flawed because even in the best of us, good has to be a street fighter to rise above our innate evil. My bad guys--they're pure. My bad guys will scare the hell out of you because I've seen evil, how tricky and careful and patient it is, and I know how to make an evil man stalk right out of the pages of a novel and into your grocery store. Into your bank. Into your sick uncle that everyone knows not to let near your little girl. I promise if you read Nothing Save the Bones Inside Her, the next scruffy skinny six foot four redneck you see with a wad of Copenhagen in his lip... you'll cross the street to avoid him, and look back afterward to see if he was hiding an ax. If you read Cold Quiet Country, you'll probably avoid the entire state of Wyoming, which is a shame because the evil people in Cold Quiet Country aren't just in Wyoming. They're your neighbors.
