Thn kertomukseen on aiheen antanut ers synkk tapahtuma, joka tapahtui kuudettakymment vuotta sitten Etel-Suomessa ja jonka ppiirteet sittemmin tmn kirjan tekijlle suullisesti esitettiin. Kertomus syntyi ruotsiksi, mutta julkaistiin ensiksi suomeksi v. 1869, joihin aikoihin salanimen kytin unkarinkielist sanaa: *Emlkyl*, joka suomeksi merkitsee: muistoksi. Suomennoksen toimitti hyvntahtoisesti ers ystvni. Sen tunnustivat meidn silloiset parhaimmat kielentuntijamme kuuluvaksi etevimpien teosten joukkoon, mitk silloisella suomenkielen kehityskannalla voitiin aikaansaada. Kielen puhtaus, sujuvuus ja rikkaus hankkivat tlle pienelle kertomukselle sen kunnian, ett sit ruvettiin kyttmn suomenkielen opinnoissa Unkarin pkaupungin yliopistossa. "Uotilan isnnn" osaksi on tullut sekin etu, ett Kansanvalistusseura v. 1883 suositti sit maamme kansankirjastoihin sopivana luettavana otettavaksi. Tst jo aikoja sitten loppuun myydyst kertomuksesta ilmestyy nyt uusi painos, jonka kieliasua ensimisen painoksen suomentaja on korjaillut suomenkielen nykyisen kehityskannan vaatimusten mukaan. Minun velvollisuuteni on nyt julkilausua sulimman kiitokseni tlle nuoruuteni ystvlle, joka, suomentamalla "Uotilan isnnn" sek "Honkain tarinat" nimiset kuvaelmani, oli ensiminen "sillanrakentaja", joka minun saattoi suomenkielisen kirjallisuuden alueelle.
