Four sisters gather around their father's dead body when a lifeless girl with signs that she has been murdered appears. What relationship do these two events have? What secrets are the sisters hiding?

At the dawn of the Second Spanish Republic, the Asorey sisters face the death of their father, a renowned doctor. Tilde, the eldest, is authoritarian and pragmatic, while Tea, the second, is unstable and suffers from severe depression. Eloísa, the third, is modern and emancipated, and Celia, the youngest, thinks of getting married as her main objective. For secret reasons, the four agree to hide their father's corpse. But when a young laundress who worked for the family is found dead, their secret pact is in danger of being blown up.

In her first and most magnificent novel, Marta Estévez tells us an intriguing family story of death and betrayal at a key historical moment in Santiago de Compostela, when the winds of change threatened political and social stability and secrets were the only way to survive.

Marta Estévez Ansede (Vigo, 1972) has a degree in English Literature from the University of Santiago de Compostela, where she currently resides. She has combined teaching with writing and is the creator of a blog called Sweet & Home. This is her first novel.
