En esta ?poca que estamos viviendo de posverdad, en la que priman las noticias falsas y la desinformaci?n, mentir es ya una pr?ctica habitual, y la verdad y su b?squeda han perdido su valor. No obstante, las mentiras no son una novedad: nos han acompa?ado a lo largo de la historia y siempre han formado parte de nuestras vidas y nuestras conductas.

Aprendemos a mentir desde la m?s tierna infancia y, aunque todos hemos contado alguna mentira piadosa, lo importante es identificar las mentiras m?s peligrosas. Por suerte, con el tiempo se han ido actualizando las t?cnicas y herramientas para detectarlas: las im?genes neuronales y la inteligencia artificial, entre otras, nos ayudan a aplicar una perspectiva cognitiva, a detectar las se?ales no verbales y a encontrar las pruebas que se escapan a simple vista.

In this era of post-truth, where fake news and misinformation prevail, lying has become a common practice, and the truth and its pursuit have lost their value. However, lies are not a novelty: they have accompanied us throughout history and have always been part of our lives and behaviors.

We learn to lie from a very young age, and although we have all told a white lie, the important thing is to identify the most dangerous lies. Fortunately, over time, techniques and tools for detecting lies have been updated: neural imaging and artificial intelligence, among others, help us apply a cognitive perspective, detect non-verbal signals, and find evidence that escapes the naked eye.

In La nueva ciencia de la mentira (The New Science of Lying), Jos? Mar?a Mart?nez Selva combines knowledge from psychology, neuroscience, linguistics, and sociology to explain how and why we lie, and how to detect and reduce the lies we tell, thus helping us to know ourselves better, communicate better, and live more peacefully with ourselves and others.
