There are signs that the syndrome may be contagious and the authorities have taken notice, making the search for an explanation even more urgent. As Grijalva's investigation continues, we learn what happened to the planet twenty years ago, when she was a music student infatuated with her teacher and her father just a digital projection in a meticulously detailed virtual world.
