HOW IS THE ACTIVATOR ORGANIZED The Activator begins with a short theoretical part, where authors provide a one-page model of conju-gated verbs. Then follows an Overview of Bulgarian verb system, wherein authors have purposefully avoided technical jargon. They also offer a table of Approximate English equivalents to verb forms in Bulgarian. The main part of the Activator is an alphabetical presentation of 212 verbs, conjugated in 7 tenses and 3 moods. Each verb is presented on a separate page. Authors have also provided a Bulgarian-English dictionary of 55 cognate verbs - these are verbs that have the same base and meaning as their English counterparts. Then users will find an Index of 106 more verbs, formed out of verbs presented in the Activator, using various prefixes. Each verb is followed by a reference to a page where you can find a conju-gated verb serving as a model. About the Author
Albena Simeonova and Antoaneta Getova hold Master degrees in Bulgarian with a minor in English from the St Kliment Ochridski University of Sofia. Albena Simeonova has a Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults issued by Cambridge University and had taught English in several well-established English private schools in Sofia before she started working as a Bulgarian language teacher for the American Embassy in Sofia. There she was joined by Antoaneta Getova in 1998, who had before worked as a teacher, journalist and a magazine editor. She founded her own Bulgarian as a second language school in Sofia in 1993, and taught for the Bulgarian Language Program of the US Peace Corps in 1996-1997. The Activator is Albena Simeonova and Antoaneta Getova's second book. They have also co-authored a Bulgarian language Introductory Course (2003) and Bulgarian Language Intermediate Course (2005) for the American Embassy's employees, and a Bulgarian Reader (2007) for Intermediate and Advanced students.
