"Sure." He already sensed she didn't want to be in his company any longer.

"See you later," he bade her leave and strode off in another direction. Just then, his phone rang. Joe picked up his call without giving another glance to Jane.

"Idiot," she muttered angrily to no one in particular. He didn't even ask for my number. She muttered in disdain.

To Jane, all men were the same. Jane Harply believed all men want either sex or money from her, and to her, all men were worthless. In fact, she wanted nothing to do with them, especially marriage, she didn't want to end up dead like her mother, Susan.

"I told you to get back here now." Roared Desmond Harply. "Else I will break your bones today, you this worthless woman," Jane heard her father shouted at her mother.

"Leave me!" Susan screamed back at her husband. "Why do you keep doing this to me?"

Jane heard her mother, Susan, pleading with her dad. Jane tried to avert her head but could not and she tried to open her eyes from her nightmare. Engulfed by the scene in her dream, she saw herself when she was a ten-year-old child, standing in the middle of their big sitting room holding the tip of her blue dress with her two hands, visibly shaking by the scene taken place in front of her and unable to move or run from the brutal sight. Jane wanted to block those horrible noises from her ears. She wanted to scream or make any sound to stop these abuses toward her helpless mother, and suddenly her surroundings turned dark. She tried to focus on her surroundings, moved towards the kitchen's door reflexing some light. At her front, laying on the cold kitchen floor, was her mother, Susan, with blood dripping down from her head.

Jane woke up from her nightmare with a jerk. Not again. She whispered. Jane has done everything possible to stop these recurring nightmares from destroying her state of mind and sleep, but nothing worked.
