About the Author
Carlo Collodi (1826-1890), pseudónimo de Carlo Lorenzini, nació en Florencia, donde su padre era cocinero de una familia aristocrática. Sirvió como voluntario en el ejército toscano durante las guerras italianas de independencia de 1848 y 1860, fundó un semanario satírico, Il Lampione, y se hizo famoso como autor de novelas y obras teatrales. En 1881 publicó, en el Giornale per i bambini, Storia di un burattino, que apareció dos años más tarde con el título de Las aventuras de Pinocho. Collodi murió en 1890 sin haber visto el inmenso éxito que su obra cosechó en todo el mundo.
