That he was born in Flanders, educated at Paris, Lorrain, Venice, Bologna, and Padua; made great Progress in his Studies, having acquird a Knowledge in near Ten different Languages; was sometime in London, with the Emperor Ferdinands Ambassador; returned to Flanders, and from thence to Vienna, where he was appointed Ambassador to Solyman the Great, and soon set out for Constantinople; but not finding him there, was obliged to go to Amasia, &c.[iv] and during his long Stay in that Country, having a strong Propensity to Learning, collected many valuable Manuscripts, Coins, &c. Took great Delight in procuring rare Plants, and studying the Nature of Animals; made himself perfect Master of the Turkish State, Policy, &c. That the Account he composed of his Journey, is a very good Work, and deserves the Approbation of all good Judges; the Learned Sadelerius, in his Edition of it, Printed at Mons, asserts it deserves a Thousand Impressions. The Celebrated Thuanus owns he transcribed many Things out of it to insert in his History, and likewise gives a great Character of the Author and his Work.
