This calendar is part of an ongoing initiative by the Chimalli Institute of Mesoamerican Arts to make traditional Mesoamerican timekeeping accessible to the public. The central Mexican calendar functions as a living system designed to track the movement of the sun (Tonatiw). Just as importantly, it represents a core component of Indigenous spiritual life. Preserving traditional calendar knowledge is essential for maintaining our ceremonial practices, which depend on accurate timing and an understanding of the solar cycle. In an era when Indigenous religious freedoms still require active defense, keeping our timekeeping traditions alive is part of protecting our rights as Native people.
By providing users with the knowledge and tools needed not only to use but also to understand this system, we aim to support its continued preservation for future generations. The count used in this calendar is based on the research of Ruben Ochoa.

Tlapoyawa, Kurly: - Kurly Tlapoyawa is an archaeologist, ethnohistorian, and filmmaker. His research covers Mesoamerica, the American Southwest, and the historical connections between the two regions. He is the author of numerous books and has presented lectures at the University of New Mexico, Harvard University, Yale University, San Diego State University, and numerous others. He most recently released his documentary short film "Guardians of the Purple Kingdom," and is a cultural consultant for Nickelodeon Animation Studios.@kurlytlapoyawa

Returns Policy
You may return most new, unopened items within 30 days of delivery for a full refund. We'll also pay the return shipping costs if the return is a result of our error (you received an incorrect or defective item, etc.).
