Access Technology for Blind and Low Vision Accessibility, the second edition of 2008's Assistive Technology for Students Who Are Blind or Visually Impaired: A Guide to Assessment, uses clear language to describe the range of technology solutions that exists to facilitate low vision and nonvisual access to print and digital information. Part 1 gives teachers, professionals, and families an overview of current technologies including refreshable braille displays, screen readers, 3D printers, cloud computing, tactile media, and integrated development environments. About the Author
Yue-Ting, Siu: - Dr. Ting received her Ph.D from University of California at Berkeley & San Francisco State University in 2015. She is currently a Teacher of Students with Visual Impairments and assistant professor in the Program for Visual Impairments (VI) in the Department of Special Education at San Francisco State University. Her primary teaching responsibilities include method courses in visual impairment such as Medical, Educational, and Rehabilitative Implications of Visual Impairment; Special Populations; Issues in VI; Assessment Strategies; and coordination of student teachers and related seminar program. Ting's research prioritizes connections between research and practice. Her areas of interest and work span the follow areas: Role of communities of practice to support itinerant teachers' professional development; Development of educational practices and technology that support multimedia accessibility; Teacher adoption of technology including professional use, assessment, and implementation with students.Presley, Ike: - Ike Presley received his Master's degree from Florida State University in 1978. He served as a teacher of students with visual impairments for 11 years in metro Atlanta, Georgia. He also instructed adults who are blind or visually impaired in the use of access technology for four years at the Georgia Sensory Rehabilitation Center in Atlanta. From 1993-1999 he served as an Assistive Technology Specialist for the Georgia Project for Assistive Technology. From 1999 to 2018, he was a National Project Manager with the American Foundation for the Blind where he developed and implemented training opportunities, materials and resources for service providers working with adults and children who are blind or visually impaired. In 2009, he co-authored Assistive Technology for Students who are Blind or Visually Impaired: A Guide to Assessment. He has presented nationally and internationally on technology, low vision and other topics related to blindness and low vision.
