About the Author
Yousif, Laith: - Laith Yousif is a software developer, writer. Born and raised in Baghdad, earned his Master's degree in Communication Engineering under the shadow of international sanctions. Realizing his homeland offered an advanced degree but no future, he left in 1998, navigating the precarious corporate landscape of Dubai before landing in the United States in early 2001.Yousif's life has consistently filtered grand, often cruel historical movements through a deeply personal lens. He witnessed the Iran-Iraq war through the eyes of a pre-teen and the invasion of Kuwait through the anxieties of a college student. Then, in a stroke of surreal irony, he arrived in New York City only to begin working inside the World Trade Center months before September 11th. Following the collapse of the towers, he found himself trapped in a fractured political landscape-a man from an "enemy" country living in the grieving heart of his new home, which ultimately forced him to seek asylum in 2003.His voice first found an audience through his raw, unvarnished blog, From Baghdad to New York, which gave a human heartbeat to the cold statistics of war. Between 2006 and 2007, he channeled this perspective into advocating for displaced Iraqis at the UNHCR, remaining separated from his own family.Stripped of romanticized fluff, Yousif's writing draws on the dark humor, grit, and absurd survival strategies required to transition from a conflict-torn youth to building software in the West. His journey has been featured in Time Magazine, and the documentary The Wind of Amal. Laith currently resides in Brooklyn, balancing tech algorithms with documenting the permanent fractures of a displaced generation believing that if you don't laugh at the absurdity of exile, you might never stop crying.
Returns Policy
You may return most new, unopened items within 30 days of delivery for a full refund. We'll also pay the return shipping costs if the return is a result of our error (you received an incorrect or defective item, etc.).
You should expect to receive your refund within four weeks of giving your package to the return shipper, however, in many cases you will receive a refund more quickly. This time period includes the transit time for us to receive your return from the shipper (5 to 10 business days), the time it takes us to process your return once we receive it (3 to 5 business days), and the time it takes your bank to process our refund request (5 to 10 business days).
