Peut-tre au sicle de Descartes on toit encore trop prs de lui pour le bien louer. Le temps seul juge les philosophes comme les rois, et les met leur place. Le temps a dtruit les opinions de Descartes, mais sa gloire subsiste. Il est semblable ces rois dtrns qui, sur les ruines mme de leur empire, paroissent ns pour commander aux hommes. Tant que la philosophie et la vrit seront quelque chose sur la terre, on honorera celui qui a jet les fondements de nos connaissances, et recr, pour ainsi dire, l'entendement humain.
