The idea that reading can contribute to well-being is nothing new. But few books have discussed the nature of processes of reinvention by way of the written word. This book is an enlightening essay on how reading can open up a reorganization of what's possible, even in the most difficult of circumstances.

About the Author
Michele Petit is an anthropologist of reading. For more than 15 years, she has carried out research on reading in various parts of France, Latin America, and elsewhere, with an emphasis on each reader's intimate and unique experience. This research led her to study the role of reading in building the self, particularly in areas in crisis. Her work is widely known in the Spanish language, both in Spain and Latin America, where she has contributed to a renaissance in thought about literacy education.
