How Not to Rescue a Snail

Everyone's favorite Snail returns in this story about overcoming a fear of change and using your voice

Snail is a big fan of tiny changes--like wearing a fake mustache, turning the TV volume way down low, and staying up late with his grammy. Whenever Grammy Slug comes to visit, they do all the same things in the same order. But Grammy is adventurous, and one day on their usual walk she suggests they take a different path. Snail feels anxious about making a change, but with encouragement from Grammy he braves the new trail.

Snail starts to enjoy himself, but that all changes when a hand comes down from above, lifting him right off the ground and placing him somewhere new. Alone and afraid, Snail does what he always does when he's scared ... schoomp! He hides in his shell. But Snail soon discovers that he's not alone--the Shellstein family has also been "rescued" by the hand. The Shellsteins are terrified, and Snail realizes it's up to him to get everyone safely home.

This fourth instalment of the sweetly humorous and heartwarming Snail & Stump series celebrates Snail as an unlikely hero and shows that even the quietest voices can be brave, helpful, and strong.

KELLY COLLIER was born in Ottawa and grew up in Toronto, Ontario, where she still lives with her husband and daughter. She has an identical twin sister and an older brother. As kids, Kelly and her sister drew all the time, mostly in an effort to "outdraw" their brother. Kelly studied illustration in college and is both the author and illustrator of the Steve the Horse series.

NASEEM HRAB is a writer and storyteller, and the author of the Snail & Stump Series, the Otis & Peanut series, I Will Not Walk to School, Weekend Dad, and The Sour Cherry Tree, which was a Governor General's Literary Awards winner. Her comedy writing has appeared on McSweeney's Internet Tendency and The Rumpus. She worked as a librarian for a time and currently works in children's publishing. Naseem lives in Toronto, Ontario.
