Honesta, curativa e inspiradora... Me ha hecho sentir visto y menos solo . --Javier Zamora, autor de Solito, bestseller de The New York Times

"Honest, healing, and inspiring... It made me feel seen and less alone." --Javier Zamora, author of Solito, New York Times bestseller

The fascinating story of how a Latina woman, daughter of immigrants, navigates social mobility while reflecting on the sacrifices that come with being the first in her family to break new ground.

Alejandra Campoverdi grew up on welfare, served as a White House aide during President Obama's administration, graduated from Harvard, dated a gang member, and ran for U.S. Congress. A life full of contradictions is not unusual when you're the "first and only." But there's a price to pay.

With honesty and an open heart, Alejandra recounts her life as a Mexican American woman raised by a single mother in Los Angeles. First Gen is a powerful testimony that challenges preconceived ideas of what it takes to achieve the American Dream. In these timely and revealing memoirs, Alejandra Campoverdi draws from her own experiences to share the challenges faced by "first and only" trailblazers--lighting the way toward truth, healing, and transformation.

Half memoir, half manifesto, this is a story of generational inheritance, ambition, and the true meaning of belonging--a heartfelt journey to reclaim the parts of ourselves we sacrifice in order to survive.
