This is the true story of a Death March of Bataan survivor, Edward Higginbotham Sr., a WWII Army Private who was sent to the Philippines in 1941, just days before Pearl Harbor and Clark Air Base were bombed by the Japanese. He is captured and forced to begin a Death March, escapes into the jungles and continues to fight for three years. Having been shot and on the verge of dying, he is helped by a Filipina girl and her family who have also narrowly escaped the Japanese. He is eventually evacuated back to the states to recover. He returns back to the Philippines a year later, to marry the Filipina girl who helped save him.

Thirty years later, during the peak of the Vietnam War, Edward Higginbotham Jr. is drafted by the Army, enlists in the Air Force and sent to Clark AFB. While there, he meets a Filipina girl he falls in love with, but he must return to the states to marry his high school fiance. After returning and learning they have grown apart, he returns to the Philippines to marry the Filipina girl he left behind.

We Shall Return and We Shall Survive, as told by Edward Higginbotham Jr., is a deeply moving memoir, with its share of tragedies and heartfelt stories that will leave you wondering how the family managed to survive. It is a must read for anyone who loves romances and war stories and can truly appreciate the value of a family's undying love for one another. It will educate you on what really matters.
